Personal Project #5 Abstraction
Introduction
Abstract photography concentrates on the formal elements, and they are shape, form, colour, pattern and texture. Some times you are unable to see the whole object and also the focus within one part of it. A good place to look for some creative ideas is to look on Abstraction Pinterest board and see how many other photographers' work can inspire you. |
Flickr is another place you can look at to get some ideas for your own creation of photogaphy using different skills and resources.

The formal elements
Focus - Focus is what areas that appear more than others and what area you focus on more, the sharpeness.
Light - Whats area are brightest then others, different shades light to dark. Are there any shadows? Is the person who does the photography allowing you to now what time of dasy it is.
Line - Are there lines within the image? Why have you chosen to focus on doing lines? Are they straight, curvey, thin or thick? Are the lines suppose to mean something are they meant to be there. Does it show outline within the image? Does the image show energy or does it show movement or both?
Repetition - Is there any shapes, objects or lines that are being repeated and are creating a pattern.
Shape - Do you see (straight edged) geometric - or organic (curvy lines) - can you tell which is which?
Space - How much depth is in the photo? Is it shallow? What creating this appearance? Are there negative (empty) in addition to positives (solid) spaces?
Texture - If you were able to touch the surface of the photographer how would you feel? The objects in the image how do they make you feel?
Value/Tone - Are there different ranges of tone, dark to light? Were in the image do you see the darker value? Where is the lightest?

Photo Shoot - Sutcliffe Park
We had taken a trip to sutcliffe park to take a series of pictures with IPods, DSLR etc. to take close ups and distant pictures of trees, plants, water, leaves, and all types of different things. the theme was based on abstraction. these are some of the examples of my work.
This picture works well because its in focus, the colour combination is nice, you can see different tones within the colour, the sharpness of the dark green, the light brown where the sun is projected onto the leaves, you can also see dark tones within areas (black, hints of grey).

This picture would have worked better if there was more abstraction within the picture, more colour, shape, tone, texture and it would ave been way better if i focused it more on a pacific point.

The picture above are the messy effect I had done with the paint and water onto the cartridge paper, I think it went well, didn't take that long to dry.
